The internet does not, on the whole, treat people especially well. Anthernet is a charter that says plainly what a website or application may do to the person using it, and what it may not. Rules, published one section at a time, as each is settled.

1.1

No Tracking or Data Sales

A website must not collect cookies or other identifiers to track a user, or sell what it collects about that user to vendors or third parties.

1.2

Consent Must Be Genuine

If a site asks permission to collect data, declining must be as easy as accepting. A design that requires a user to disable many switches one by one does not count as consent.

1.3

Advertising Conduct

Advertising is permitted. An advertisement must not:

  • Occupy the majority of the content area
  • Autoplay, or otherwise demand attention without the user’s consent, including ads that block content until dismissed
  • Be positioned or styled to trick a user into interacting with it
